Priory House dates from the early 19th century.  It can be seen in maps of the time and is mentioned in Pigot’s Commercial Directory as ‘a handsome building’.

Dudley’s first police station, complete with lock-up, built by “the county of Worcester” around 1847 and is Grade II listed. It was the first municipal building on Priory Street’s site

Former Dudley School of Art

Red brick and terracotta building was constructed in 1883 by Bateman & Corser of Birmingham as the Dudley School of Art and Free Library and was opened on 29th July 1884.

Built as Congregational Church, opened in 1882 and designed by Thomas Robinson (who also designed Lye and Wollescote Cemetery Chapel)

Former Technical Institute & Public Library

Built 1903 as a public, free library and technical institute to train apprentices in the local glass industry.

Catholic Church

Built 1872, designed by Pugin. In the church there is a font by Emery, 1873 and stained glass windows by Hardmans, 1899.

Built 1921 commemorating the dead of the WW1 and WW2 plus the Korean War, Cyprus Emergency and Malayan Emergency.

St Michael’s Church

Erected 1765 and then enlarged further in 1823, 1837 and then again in the  1880’s and 1900’s. Set within a large churchyard which contains the graves of famous figures such as Anthony Clarke Booth.

Woolworths-HOD-booklet

Former
Woolworth's Store

Built in 1935, the building replaced a smaller 1914 store a few doors away which had no room to extend. The building was designed in Art Deco style, which became Woolworth’s

in-house style for the 1930s.

Fountain Arcade

Fountain Arcade,
Dudley

The Fountain Arcade was Dudley’s first shopping arcade and was the brainchild of local solicitor and Deputy Mayor, Alderman T W Tanfield JP. Local architect Mr E George Coslett was enlisted to design the arcade and two local builders, A.J. Crump & Sons Ltd and Mark Round & Sons Ltd, were appointed for the construction work.

The OldMeeting House

This 1717 building is the oldest existing building of worship in Dudley. It was Grade II listed in 1949, meaning it is a building of special interest and warranting every effort to preserve it. It is now a Unitarian chapel.

Baylies’s Hall
Charity School

Baylies’s Charity School was established by Robert, Samuel and Anne Baylies in 1732.  This was a period when many such schools were founded, for ‘teaching, instructing and clothing 50 boys’.

68 High Street Brierley Hill

No.68 High Street was constructed as a bank between c1875 and 1880 and appears to have been a multi-occupancy building given it has two separate entrances. Over the years it has been occupied by three different bank branches, used as a solicitor’s office and occupied by two different physicians/surgeons. In 2023 it was converted into residential use.
